The Dakota Vortex Experience
Gear up for a long, exciting day in the field! We like to spread hunters out across several areas. What does that mean? We could call you the day before a switch field up to 100 miles away! We hunt the flood river waters, corn fields, and small lakes. It is our goal to find the spot that give a group the experience of a life time!

What To Expect?

We start the morning pretty early. The hunters should be at the field about 45 minutes prior to first legal hunting time. We will meet at a location close to the field. Once we are at the field, guides will make last minute preparations. They may ask you to make some adjustments with them to make sure that the spread is just perfect for you. Guides will hunt till around 11am. At that time, hunters can stay in the spreads or break for a few hours.
* Guides are out in the spreads for weeks. They will take this break!
Dakota Vortex has a large amount of ground covering Eastern South Dakota. We base ourselves out of Stickney, but hunt any where the birds are! Lodging is available in this area, or we will direct you to a hotel.

Most fields are setup with the condition in mind. You could be sitting in mud up to your eyes, or you could be in a nice warm pit. We will be in the fields with the birds! This means be prepared!

SDS uses the best equipment we can buy! We run up to 1500 decoys ranging from full bodies, socks, flyers, and silos. We run high end e-callers.

*IMPORTANT*
On normal, spring, sunny days, we will be laying out in WHITES! You will be provide "back boards". These are quality cushions from Hunt Comfy and Tanglefree. You are welcome to bring your own backboards. There is times we will be using layouts. Your guide will let you know. Assume you will be wearing whites. If you don't have whites on, we will give you Tyvek suits for $10.
Also, wear a facemask of some kind. Amazon has some great all white masks for $4.
This is important to the success of your hunt. At the very least, hunters should have half whites on!

What else to bring?
Prepare for the weather, it could start at 70 and drop to 20. It could snow and rain with no warning. It's South Dakota.
Guns- We recommend a 12ga shotgun. You could shoot up to 200 rounds a day so be smart. I would bring a backup just it case. Don't bring a gun that needs to be babied. It'll get dirty, it'll get wet.

Ammo- We recommend BB's as a catch all shot. On a good day, #2s will work well, but if they don't play, we want you to reach. We tell hunters to figure 2 boxes a day.

Camera, Headlamps, Snacks, Hand Warmers.... these should be thrown in the blind bag!
