Fall Duck and Goose Hunting

Dakota Vortex is all about giving their guest a true waterfowl experience. Year round we are thinking about what it takes to give you the best hunt.  You work hard for your money, and we want to work hard for you. We guarantee that we will work harder than anyone else to put you on the birds. We have a variety of blinds, pits, and A frames to help accommodate most hunters.

Hunt Style: We primarily hunt dry crop fields that consist of soybeans, corn or wheat. Several pit locations are available bordering water.

Common species targeted: Mallards, wigeon, teal, pintail, wood ducks, Canada geese, snow/blue geese.

Season Dates: September - December (Fall Duck and Goose)
March - April (Spring Snow Goose)

What to bring:

FIELD:
Generic camouflage, warm, waterproof boots, insulated pants or bibs, heavy and light jackets to layer, gloves, beanie or ball cap, etc. Boot dryers are available for use. Waders are available for rent if opportunity arises. SHOTGUNS: 12 or 20 gauge are recommended. SHELLS: Federal Premium Black Cloud FS Steel.
 

 

Waterfowl Daily and Bag Limits:

FALL:
6 and comprised of no more than:
5 Mallards, which may include no more than 2 hens
3 Scaup
3 Wood Ducks
2 Redheads
1 Pintail
2 Canvasbacks

SPRING:
Unlimited Light Geese (Snows+Blues)

 

Dog/retriever policy: We know your dog is your best friend. Our guides will have professionally trained dogs. If your dog is kennel/field trained please ask about bringing them along. DISTRACTIONS WILL BE ASKED TO BE KENNELED.

 

Additional fees: Non-Hunters are $50 per day.

Meals can be purchased with hunt only packages starting at $12.


Pro-Shop Purchases (Carhartt, Orvis, and several other high-quality brands available to complete your stay or make you more comfortable in the field.)



State/Province Hunting Requirements:

Fall Licensing:
South Dakota's waterfowl licenses are allotted via lottery draw and we want to be sure to assist anyone interested in joining in the action this upcoming waterfowl season! Applications open in June and close first week of July. If you missed the deadline, please contact us to inquire about leftover licenses or other hunting opportunities! We are more than happy to complete applications upon request. We will be hunting mostly in NRW-00Z-86

Fall License Requirements:
3 Day - $86 / 10 Day (Statewide) - $121
South Dakota Migratory Bird Certification (included in nonresident license).
Federal Waterfowl Stamp (not required for those under age 16) SD requires hunters to physically possess stamp.
Youth age 12 (or will turn 12 by Dec. 31) May hunt under same license requirements as adults.

Spring Licensing
Spring Conservation License can be purchased over the counter to cover the entire season. $50 -- Migratory Bird Certificates are included in nonresident license. Federal Duck Stamps are not required.

Terms: 50% non-refundable deposit due to reserve dates.

Final balance due the final day of client stay.

Check, cash and all major credit cards accepted.

Maximum of 6 hunters per field/ group. (Spring season we can increase this to 10)

Cancellation Policy:

If a cancellation occurs, the entire deposit amount will be forfeited. Exceptions will be made upon approval. In the event of an unsuccessful lottery draw in the fall, a full refund will be issued or transferable to the following year. Should circumstances arise that result in postponement of event, we will transfer your reservation to the same event with new, future dates.
